How do I adjust the head restraint (headrest) in my Lincoln?

Your head restraint (headrest) can be adjusted or removed by using the buttons on each side of the guide sleeves. 

Adjusting Your Head Restraint

The image below shows the different components of your head restraint. 

Note: This is a sample image. Your vehicle may have a different head restraint. See your Owner's Manual for information specific to your vehicle.

A - An energy-absorbing head restraint

B - Two steel stems

C - Guide sleeve adjust and release button

D - Guide sleeve unlock and remove button (if equipped)

Raising the head restraint

To raise the head restraint, pull the head restraint up.

Note: Depending on your vehicle model and year, you may have to press and hold the adjust and release (C) button.

Lowering the head restraint

To lower the head restraint:

  1. Press and hold the adjust and release (C) button.
  2. Push the head restraint down.
Removing the head restraint

To remove the head restraint:

  1. Pull the head restraint up until it reaches its highest position.
  2. Press and hold the adjust and release (C) and unlock and remove (D) buttons.
  3. Pull the head restraint up.

Note: You cannot remove head restraints that have audio system speakers.

Installing the head restraintAlign the steel stems into the guide sleeves and push the head restraint down until it locks.
