How do I use Lincoln SYNC®* voice commands?

SYNC voice commands can control your AM/FM radio, SiriusXM®**, USB media player, or Bluetooth®† Audio device, by saying a wake word or pressing the voice command button on your steering wheel. Follow the steps below to enable this feature.

Utilizing SYNC Voice Commands

Select your SYNC generation from the drop-down options below to learn how to operate your SYNC system with voice commands. If you need assistance determining the generation of your SYNC system, select the first drop-down option.

Note: Instructions may vary. See your Owner’s Manual for information specific to your vehicle. 

Identifying Your Lincoln's SYNC Generation

Either:

  • Enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select Check for update.
  • Log in with your Lincoln credentials, choose a vehicle from your garage, and select Check for updates.

Your SYNC generation will appear on the right-hand side of the page.

SYNC 4

Refer to the table below to set up and use voice commands with SYNC 4.

Enabling Voice Commands

To turn on voice commands with SYNC 4:

  1. Select Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen. 
  2. Press Voice Control.
  3. Tap Listen for Wake Word.
Setting a Wake Word

You can set the Wake Word instead of using the default. To do so:

  1. Select the vehicle drawer on the SYNC touchscreen. 
  2. Press Settings.
  3. Tap Voice Assistant.
  4. Select the wake word.
Using Voice Commands Once the wake word is selected, you can say: <Insert wake word> followed by a voice command.

Notes:

  • A short press of the Push-to-Talk (PTT) button on the steering wheel can be used instead of the wake word.
  • A long press of the PTT button will alert Android Auto™†† or Apple CarPlay®‡ if connected.

SYNC 3

To use voice commands with SYNC 3:

  1. Press the Voice Control button on the steering wheel.

  2. Say a voice command.

Note: When Android Auto™†† or Apple CarPlay®‡ is active, SYNC 3 Voice Recognition is disabled and voice commands will be unavailable.

SYNC with MyLincoln Touch®

Important: Your phone must be paired with and connected to SYNC.

To use voice commands with SYNC with MyLincoln Touch, press the Voice button on your steering wheel. A message will appear in the bottom, left-hand corner of your SYNC screen advising that your vehicle is "Listening" and ready for your voice command.

Example of Commands

You can:

  • Press the Voice button and say "What can I say?"
  • Press the question mark icon on your SYNC screen for a list of suggested commands.
  • Press the Voice button and say "Help." For example, to get help with phone commands, you can say "Phone Help."

Complete List of Commands

For a complete list of commands:

  1. Press Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Tap Help.
  3. Select Voice Commands.

Note: When you see a "Success" or "Failure" message in the bottom, left-hand corner of your SYNC screen, the voice session is over, and you will have to press the Voice button again to start a new session.
